What's Happening

  • The Oriental Centre – conveniently located at the northeast corner of Sheppard Avenue East and Brimley Road – invites everyone to drop in for some special entertainment, arranged to help celebrate Mother’s Day this weekend.

From 2:00 until 4:00 p.m. – SATURDAY MAY 7 – you are invited to enjoy some international talent that will perform for your enjoyment.

Be sure not to miss our 4 Chinese singers (including Anne Chung, who appears in cooperation with AM 1540), as well as Tropicana Queen, a Brazilian samba group, and the popular dances of Fiona Su. There is no charge for this - and everyone is welcome.

The Oriental Centre and Sheppard East Village BIA are pleased to extend their very best wishes to all Mothers on their special day – and all year round!

  • Everyone is invited to an Open House and Rummage Sale at our local Police Station on Saturday May 7, 2016 – from 11:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.   42 Division is located at 242 Milner Avenue, one light west of Markham Road, one block north of Highway 401.

42 Division serves the people, businesses and community organizations in a large part of the east end of Toronto – from Victoria Park Ave. to Port Union Road and from Highway 401 to Steeles Avenue.

Our neighbourhood is safe and being well protected by the dedicated team of police professionals who serve with Superintendent Kim Yeandle and Inspector Dave Vickers.

Every year, 42 Division hosts an Open House, where everyone is welcome.  There will be tours of the police station, a display of various police vehicles and equipment, and a free BBQ – as well as a chance
to speak and interact with police officers from our community.

As part of the Open House, 42 Division holds a Rummage Sale that offers some great bargains on a wide range of interesting items.  It is organized by the Community Police Liaison Committee (CPLC) and the Chinese Community Liaison Committee (CCLC) – a committee of police officers and a dedicated group of volunteers from across Scarborough, who support a variety of 42 Division activities throughout the year.

Proceeds from the May 7 Rummage Sale will help to fund CPLC / CCLC programs – including awards and scholarships for local students; after-school student groups; a summer camp opportunity; the annual 42 Division Auxiliary Christmas Toy Drive; and the annual 42 Division Community Picnic (on June 11, at the Burrows Hall Community Centre).

For further information about the Open House or if you wish to donate any sellable items for the Rummage Sale, contact the 42 Division Community Services Office at 416-808-4238.

  • Sheppard East Village BIA congratulates the residents who have recently formed the Agincourt Village Community Association (AVCA).

This new Association will represent those who live between Midland Avenue and Kennedy Road, from the CP Rail tracks, south of Sheppard Avenue, to Finch Avenue.

All residents within these boundaries are invited to become members of AVCA.  The annual fee per household is $20.

The goals of AVCA are to preserve the historic community of old Agincourt and to ensure its safety by being a collective voice to address changes that affect this neighbourhood.

AVCA is actively involved in commenting on plans for the expanded Go Transit and Smart Track service, that will run through their area, and the new stop being built at Sheppard Avenue East.

AVCA’s founding officers are President Rhoda Potter, Vice-President Randy MacDougall, Secretary Christine Lincoln and Treasurer Richard Yang.

Sheppard East Village looks forward to working with AVCA in matters of mutual interest and concern for the area that we share and the people that we serve.

AVCA points of contact have been added to our list of nearby community organizations.
